Why undertake a search?
In the initial early stages of an inventions development, it is a good idea to make sure you're not infringing on someone else with their ideas or designs. It is also very important to have a clear idea about where your invention sits with regards to future commercialisation and patentability.
Many people start their own discovery by checking the shelves of retail stores or wholesale trade warehouses and use the internet for investigations for products of a similar nature or similar function to their own invention. They set out to seek to identify whether there is a marketplace for products that are commercially available, but often this is only looking at what is available to the public and commonly available over a counter and does not uncover what is kept or is being developed behind closed doors.
There is many more products that are held in unpatented and patented form that have never been manufactured or commercialised, and it is your responsibility and common sense to check that your invention is not going to infringe on them.

This Basic Preliminary Patent Information Search is an initial internal search through electronic databases of the possibility of existing patents or patent applications of a nature that may be similar to that being revealed to us by an inventor.
This basic search is generally undertaken for early stage inventors by us for identifying the existence of similar or competing inventions prior to the inventor making the decisions for undertaking further development or seeking opportunities and the marketability of a new concept.
This basic search is not meant to be a replacement to any search that may be performed by a Patent Attorney and is by no means a thorough examination of prior art.
The information is a partial summary search and should not be relied upon to form an opinion as to the viability of an idea or invention without seeking additional professional and supporting advice from a Patent Attorney.
The basic search is undertaken through electronic means using public access and up to two International Patent and Trademark Offices.
The search will often take around 4 days to compile and complete.
A simple summary report that includes the basic details of the Patents discovered is provided to you in an electronic format for further research or investigation. BASIC PRELIMINARY PATENT INFORMATION SEARCH Charge: $345
